Easter 2012 {Part 1}

Our Easter celebrations actually turned into a week long affair.  On Monday I took the kids to a Mom's group Easter party complete with an egg hunt and easter bunny.  Sawyer had fun playing with his friends.  This was also the first time he has been to a real egg hunt and knew what he was doing.  He did pretty well in that he knew he was supposed to find eggs and pick them up.  However, instead of throwing them in his basket he insisted on opening them up to see what was inside.  He couldn't stand the excitement and thus much of his candy fell to the ground :)  The biggest surprise of the whole event was Sawyer's obsession with the easter bunny. The minute the "bunny" walked through the door Sawyer was enamored and I could barely get him away so other kids could have a turn.  I thought he might be a little scared of the bunny, but that was certainly not the case.

On Thursday Uncle Cliff and Aunt Jess came over and delivered an Easter basket for Nora and Sawyer.  Sawyer had a blast opening each egg and separating the candy by different types.  Even after all the candy was out of the eggs he kept going back and opening them up.  He just had to make sure he got everything :)  Nora enjoyed chewing on her new rabbit.

On Friday Daddy had the day off work so we spent the day working on bathroom stuff but the best part of the day was going to Good Friday service at church.  We heard a wonderful message and sang songs that truly helped me focus on the significance of Easter.  It's so easy to get caught up in day-to-day life plus worrying about making a big Easter feast that I tend to lose my focus.  But Friday's service really helped me remember that Easter is about the death and resurrection of our Savior!

On Saturday the festivities continued.  We went to a nearby park that hosts a large easter egg hunt.  We tried to go last year, but we got there a few minutes late and the whole thing was over.  We didn't make that mistake this year.  We made sure to arrive 30 minutes early so we could park and sign-in.  We had to wait a few minutes at the starting line and Sawyer was really itching to get those eggs.  However, when they let the kids go I think the stampede was a bit much for him.  He was more interested in running than actually picking up eggs :)  He did get a few.  He continued his picking up, opening, then putting in the basket technique.  All of these eggs had nickels in them.  He was quite dismayed that there were no "snacks."  He had fun, but what was comical to us was the whole thing was over in about 30 seconds.  All that hoopla for 30 seconds of fun.  He also got to see the easter bunny again.
