Game #4

Yesterday was a heart pounding kind of day in more ways than one.

I started the day bright and early with a 5:30 am wake-up call so I could participate in the Akron Marathon Relay.  I ran the 2nd leg which was 4.8 miles.  It was very cold while I waited, but once I started running it was a beautiful day.  There were over 15,000 participants which made for a great atmosphere and I was able to chat with people as I ran which made the time move faster.  I was positively pleased with my time. During training the most I ran was 4 miles and I was averaging a slow 11 minute mile.  Today I ran almost 5 miles in 47 minutes (under 10 minute miles). Not super fast...I ran a full marathon at that pace so obviously it's not that great but considering my fitness level right now I'm pleased.

From there I sped home, picked up the kids, and headed to a church tailgate party.  We ate at the park near the stadium and Sawyer had a blast on the slides and chasing geese (literally trying to catch them around the neck).

After lunch we made our way to the game.  It was a 1:00 pm game and the kids didn't get a nap but they did pretty well as long as they were entertained and had a snack.  Sawyer did cause some heart pounding moments when he ran away not once, but twice.  Once he made it clear across the stadium before I noticed he was missing thankfully the crowd was watching out for him.  The second time he went behind the stadium near the concession stand.  I asked him why he ran away and he said he was looking for me...yeah right.  And the most intense, heart pounding part of the day was the actual football game.  This week Malone took on Tiffin.  It was pretty close the whole game.  But in the 4th quarter we had a 10 point lead.  However, the lead slipped away and as time ran out the ball game was tied 27-27. In overtime MU had the ball first and scored a field goal that bounced off the goal post.  Tiffin then got the ball and proceeded to score on a field goal. So we move to a 2nd overtime.  Tiffin had the ball first and the defense held them out of the in zone and they attempted a field goal. It was blocked!!! Malone got the ball and within a few plays they ran into the in zone capturing the game with a 33-27 victory! Oh boy was my heart pounding! Funny enough Nora fell asleep on me during the final play of the 4th quarter and continued to sleep through the overtimes.  I don't know how she slept with my heart pounding out of my chest.

After the big win we celebrated by going to a friends birthday party.

It was a super busy, but fun day!  Hope we get to rest and recuperate this afternoon.

Fall Craft for the Kiddos

I recently hosted a play date and I needed a little activity to keep the kids entertained.  I wanted to do something with a fall theme so what would any busy mom do...visit Pinterest.  When I need an idea it never lets me down and this time was no different.  I specifically wanted something suited for preschoolers, have a fall theme, and be inexpensive.  And here's what I came up with:

Butterfly House

This summer one of my friends started a weekly play group.  Nearly every Thursday Sawyer gets to play with his friends and I get to talk to some of my friends.  The kids run wild and the moms enjoy the conversation.

One Thursday we visited the Beech Creek Botanical Gardens and their butterfly house.  The kids had a blast looking at turtles, butterflies, and trains.

Game #3

This week the Pioneers took on Wayne State.  Last year Wayne State lost in the national championship game...um they might be a good team.  We started the game with a tailgate.  When we got out of the van it was sprinkling and by the time we walked 50 yards to the food tent it was in a full downpour.  I was lugging our snack bag, the stroller, coats, and a towel.  I was trying to get us under the dry, warm tent as fast as possible but Sawyer decided it would be more fun to stand in the middle of the busy parking lot and get drenched.  By the time I coerced him into the tent we were all soaked.  We grabbed dinner and frantically ate as Sawyer was shaking like a leaf.

Thankfully for games with inclement weather we have a press box we can use. After eating we hurried to the warmth of the press box to dry out.  So thankful we were able to watch the game from a warm, dry place but when you put 4 adults and 8 kids in a 6x12 room for 3 hours it's bound to get a little crazy.  While I didn't get to watch much of the game the kids had fun and did suprisingly well considering the game didn't end until 10:00 pm.  Speaking of the game it didn't go so well the final score was 14-38.

I didn't take too many pictures, but here's a little view of our chaos.

Literally

Nora takes the saying "lick your plate clean" quite literally

I think she liked it :) I love the food on her forehead that was transferred from the plate.

Bath Fun

Sawyer and Nora have taken baths together for months, but just recently Nora joined in on the bath time fun (no more 5 minute in and out baths for her)

Sawyer does not like water dumped on his head but he loves to douse his sister

When Daddy is away...

we have to find some way to entertain ourselves!

and that is not a bruise above his lip, it's a really bad juice stain, it took days to wash off

game #2

MU took on Hillsdale this weekend.  The final score was 10-27 not in our favor. It was a night game in Michigan and since I didn't want to get home at 3:00 am the kids and I stayed home.

It was a super early morning with both kids rising well before the sun.  It made for some cranky babies but we pushed through and ran errands all morning.  They took great naps in the afternoon.  And mom had a girls night out for the evening. We listened to the MU football game and I completed a few Christmas gifts.  And the kids had a blast with a babysitter!

Pretty uneventful at home, but we are looking forward to a home game next weekend!

The kids kept themselves entertained. Sawyer threw everything out of the toy box to make a bathtub.  He asked Nora to join him.  They used stacking cups to pour "water" over their head.  And in his hand you will also notice he is washing baby Jesus (out of the Little People Nativity set)

Like Brother Like Sister

I know I've done resemblance posts before but sometimes I take a picture and I can't get over how much they look alike.  This series of posts is a prime example. And yes they are kissing the bleachers in the first picture. I'm not sure why but it was so cute I had to take a picture and then I made them stop :)

They may be related!

Crafts for the Home

I know I make a lot of kids crafts, but as seasons change I often get the urge to create a few new pieces for the home.  The first project was a wedding gift and the other projects are actually available in the Etsy shop.
