Baby's Bday

Kolter's 1st birthday was on Friday. We honestly didn't have anything planned since his party is still a few weeks away. We scheduled his party for mid-April hoping for warmer weather. I'm glad we didn't do it this weekend as we had frigid temps and a little snow.

While his 1st birthday didn't hold a lot of pomp and circumstance we did a few special things. When he woke up in the morning the big kids sang happy birthday.

I didn't want to give him a smash cake until his birthday party, so the big kids suggested we make cookies. We made chocolate peanut butter cookies and they were a hit with all ages!

This was Kolter's 1st cookie and he took to it like a  pro! He loved it!

mmmmm, this is pretty good

Now I want a bigger bite

12 months

Happy birthday to my baby! I don't know how he could possibly be a year old today!

Weight: 18 lb. 3 oz. (3%)
Height: 27.5 inches (3%)

You are a 100% walker.

You are close to running.

You learned how to go down the steps.

You adore picking up large objects and toting them around (full size basketball, wrapping paper tube, etc)

You love to throw anything and everything you get your hands on

You are great at giving high fives

When we give you food on your tray you blow on it (you are mimicking what we do with hot food, but it's so cute to see a little guy do it)

You might be the comedian in the family. You often imitate Sawyer's shenanigans to get a laugh. For example, you will intentionally slap yourself in the face and wait for us to laugh...that's how Sawyer gets you to laugh

You wear size 3 shoe

You wear a size 3 diaper

You wear size 12 month clothes

You have started babbling more and saying more letter sounds. You can say Mama, Dada, ball and all done.

You have 6 teeth (another one on the bottom and top left popped through)

You started giggling more this month. In the previous months Sawyer was the only one who could always get a laugh. Now you'll laugh at all of us if we are being silly.

You only nurse twice a day (morning and night).

You started drinking whole milk and you love it.

You stopped liking baby food. You insist on eating table food like Sawyer and Nora.

When you are teething you are grumpy and throw tantrums, but once the tooth pops through you are back to your usual happy, content self.

and just because I'm never in pictures with him, here's a quick selfie we took after his "photo shoot"

Kids Krafts

Recently I was on a mission to use up fabric in my stash. I had a bunch of jersey fabric that I had purchased at a major discount. I am also currently obsessed with baseball/raglan tees. So, I decided it was time to make some baseball inspired tees for Nora. I made a t-shirt and a dress using fabric I already had.

I used the pattern and tutorial from Nap Time Creations for the t-shirt. Then I just expanded the pattern to make the A-line dress.

And here's my girl modeling her new comfy dress.

The 3rd 1st Bday Party

Kolter's 1st birthday is quickly approaching…what!? I can't believe my baby is almost 1! With each child I have enjoyed planning a big event for their 1st birthday. I was actually fretting about Kolter because I didn't have his theme decided before he was born…yes I'm a little crazy ;)

After a bit of thought I decided a cowboy and indian party would be the perfect fit since he is named after a cowboy…not really a cowboy, but a mountain man…we'll just call it the same thing ;)

Here's a look at what I'm thinking about and some inspiration.

one - two - three - four - five - six - seven

Last week we sent out the invitations. I created the cards, attached the feathers with washi tape and put them in the mail. Now I better get to work on the party decor! Here's a look at the invites:

Frozen Dreams

This weekend Nora attended her first Frozen birthday party and she was just a wee bit excited!

All ready in her Anna dress and hair

The party was quite the Frozen affair complete with Frozen tattoos, a tiara creating station, coloring, snowman building favors, Frozen themed food and a visit from Queen Elsa of Arendelle.

Nora's official introduction to Elsa…she was so enthralled ;)

Princess friends

Elsa gave everyone tattoos, applied sparkly eyeshadow and lip gloss, played games and had a dance party with all the princesses. Nora, my Buzz Lightyear loving little tomboy, was all over it. She stuck by Elsa's side and did everything she instructed. She was in her element…in fact Sawyer was a little lost without his usual side kick, but he couldn't tear her away ;)

Brotherly Love

Sawyer and Kolter have a very special relationship. Simply put Kolter adores the ground Sawyer walks on. Everyday I pray this bond continues and Sawyer is a wonderful example for him.

Kolter is generally a happy, smiley baby. But he is quite reserved when it involves laughing. However, there is 1 exception and that's his big bro, Sawyer. Sawyer can always get a laugh out of Kolter.

Whether he is acting like a hyena or hitting himself in the face if Kolter is a captive audience he will always get a laugh. As evidenced below:

Sledding Firsts

This winter Nora has really enjoyed playing in the snow. And the snow has been an ever present sight since December. However, due to the extreme cold she isn't always able to play in the fluffy white pillows of snow outside her window.

But one fateful day the weather cooperated and Daddy was able to take Nora (and Sawyer) on her first real sledding adventure, on the Malone hill.

She loved it and so did he!

And after all the sledding fun they had just enough energy to create some snow angels.
