Picture Practice

7 years ago we bought our first DSLR…since then I've promised myself I would learn how to shoot in manual mode…well it just never happened, so this month I finally decided to take the leap and join an online photography course. My hope is that by spending money I will force myself to take the time to learn. So far that philosophy has worked ;)

The first part of the course focuses on the content of the picture. I was challenged to practice the rule of thirds, lines, movement, framing, keeping it simple, balance, lighting and angles.

All of these pictures were taken in auto mode to focus solely on the composition. Next up is learning the manual settings!

Unfortunately this isn't a great time of year to practice photography because the cold weather makes it difficult to shoot outside…where I have the most desirable lighting. So the baking pictures were taken inside and the other set of pictures was taken during a hike…that was supposed to be warm, but turned cold very quickly ;)

This is not a practice picture, but we were coordinating that day with our army jackets and leopard print ;)

Merry Christmas to all...

In true 2016 fashion our Christmas card was multi-tasking. It was a birth announcement/moving notice/Christmas card all-in-one ;)

The Big Three

This year we decided to combine Evy's birth announcement/moving announcement/Christmas card. Since we had Evy's newborn photos I needed to get a few shots of the big three. We visited a local park and miraculously got them to smile and look at the camera ;)

Evy Kay {3 months}

Evy finally had her 2 month well child visit when she was 3 months old ;) Because of the delayed appointment we have doctor stats to report this month.

Weight: 10 lbs. 14 oz. (9%)
Length: 22.6 inches (12%)
Head: 15.4 inches (20%)

This alliteration is the perfect explanation of our little Evy Kay...
Smiles
Sleeps
Spit-ups

Smiles: Girl is smily and happy all the time (unless she is hungry or tired). If you take a moment to talk to her you are guaranteed a smile. She's even given us a few laughs.

Sleep: Miss Evy Kay is a great sleeper! 95% of the time she sleeps through the night! Typically, she sleeps from 10 pm - 5 or 6 am and then goes back down again until 8 or 9 am. She only takes a morning nap a few days a week due to our crazy schedule with 4 kids all going different directions. She is great about her afternoon nap sleeping from 12:30pm - 2:30 pm then I have to wake her up for school pick-up. She usually takes a little snooze in the evening too.

Spit-Up: She is a champ at spitting up. She does it several times each day and inevitably she always smells like spit-up. And there's a 99% chance I have spit-up somewhere on me ;) Thankfully, it doesn't bother her so we just go through lots of burp clothes.
