We're taking a break from Sawyer today and filling you in on the housing situation.
Praise the Lord it's going well, just slowly. We've got the signed contract, had the inspection, had the appraisal, confirmed the insurance. Now we're just waiting for the closing date...hopefully beginning to middle of next week.
I don't want to jump the gun, but a few people have asked. So, here's a picture of the outside of the house. There will be lots of inside pics over the next few months.
As you can tell from the picture. The outside needs a little TLC. Any good landscaping advice would be greatly appreciated. Kyle and I know absolutely nothing about landscaping. However, I do know the huge tree and the bushes are all going away. Also, the shutters will be changing to navy blue and we're going to add matching shutters to the top 2 windows.
We'll pretty much have a blank slate...any landscaping ideas?
What a great house! It looks very spacious! Maybe break up the front yard by adding a stone walking path? I'm guessing there is a sidewalk running with that row of bushes, so that may not be a good suggestion. What about adding some flowering bushes?
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a side walk in front of the current bushes.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of flowering bushes. I think the house could use a little color. Any suggestions?
Thanks Beth!
Congrats, Kristen! I know you'll have a great time in the months to come making this house your 'home'. I'm pretty sure you can watch episodes of 'Curb Appeal' at hgtv.com. They'd have some great ideas and inspiration, I'm sure. I also love the blog, younghouselove.com. It's a young couple with their first baby on the way, and they have excellent taste and do everything on a budget. Can't wait to see the inside!
ReplyDeleteTons of Greenville people have this type http://www.naturehills.com/product/formosa_azalea.aspx It comes in many colors. I am partial to Lilacs. I know you would have to research what will grow in the weather out there since every region is different. I don't know if you remember our front walk but we have that little flower bed on the yard side, that might be another way to add some color. I can send you a pic if you need reference :) SOOO fun! I'm so excited for you guys. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great house! You should see mine, haha. Why do you want to take out the tree, its just too close to the house? I actually like evergreen bushes but I agree those ones blocking the lower windows would have to go. I like the idea of flowering bushes under the big bay window, and I'd probably find a place for some flower beds too infront of that.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it looks like a great house, and we wish you the best as you wait for closing. We just went thru that ourselves and it took longer than planned and was lots of stress. Frankly it stinks, but is worth it in the end. Thinking of you!
Kate, thanks for the young house love website! It has tons of great information. I think I will be visiting that site regularly.
ReplyDeleteBeth, thanks for the info. A flower bed would be great to add some color. I'll let you know when we get closer to buying the plants we may need some more info.
Kit, Thanks! Yes, the tree is too close to the house and is rubbing on the roof shingles. Thanks for the ideas!
LOVE the house!! I know you two will make it so lovely!
ReplyDeleteThe best tips we got on landscaping were from HGTV shows too. ;) Things like shaping the beds in curves not straight lines if possible, and then mixing evergreen varietyies with flowering things. reason being that in the winter you would still have something to look at. :)
We got really lucky with this house to have such nice landscaping, I know it's lots of work trying to plan it all out and pick the right plants. Good luck and feel free to contact me if you need any suggestions on specific plants.
Great house! Excited for you guys. I hope everything continues on smoothly and quickly.
