Riding the Rides

Our summer is packed with lots of travel and family visits and it all begins this weekend!  But I've also got a list of fun things I want to do with the kids near home, so we've been trying to pack in the fun before the traveling begins.  The other night we visited a nearby park with all kinds of fun activities perfect for Sawyer's age.

The activities are specifically designed for younger children and the rides and food are reasonably priced making it a perfect family outing!

We packed a picnic supper which we ate when we arrived.  Then we introduced Sawyer to the fun of amusement park rides.  First he wanted to ride the choo-choo.  Kyle and Sawyer went a couple of laps on the train.  Then Sawyer got to pilot a plane and drive a car all by himself.  I didn't know how he would do  riding by himself.  I envisioned him standing up mid flight, but he was a perfect rider and thoroughly enjoyed it!  We were going to wrap up the riding time when Sawyer announced he wanted to ride the ferris wheel.  We tried to steer clear of the bigger rides, but he was adamant.  Kyle was turning green at the thought of riding on the ferris wheel so I volunteered.  Again I didn't know how Sawyer would do considering the height of the ride, but he loved it!  We looked out over the park and discussed what fun activities he wanted to do next.

Following the ferris wheel we moved to the playground area and Sawyer had fun playing on the equipment.  As the parents energy was waning :) we moved along to the concession stand.  I have been craving a snow cone since I was pregnant with Nora and I finally got to have one!  Sawyer got to taste his first snow cone.  He was definitely a fan, he love's ice!

And for our final activity we ventured to the duck pond.  We brought along bread and fed the ducks and geese.  This was our first time since the falling-in-the-duck-pond incident and Sawyer did really well.  He was excited about feeding the ducks.  He meticulously tore small pieces of bread and threw them to the animals.  He even tried to throw bread to the side and back of the pack so all the ducks would get to partake in the bounty.  I'm happy to report there seems to be no lingering trauma from the incident this spring :)

It was a perfect family fun night with age appropriate activities, nice weather, and great company!  I think we'll be frequenting this park more often!
