The Big Reveal (2)

I was planning on posting the nursery pictures before Sawyer arrived, but he decided to come a little early. So, welcome to Sawyer's revamped crib.

Before:
Unfortunately, I don't have any before pictures. But use your imagination and envision a drab off-white room with 4 door openings and a large desk/bookshelf.

After:

Kyle and I LOVE it!!! It turned out perfectly. Every time we walk through the room we love it even more.

Mini Extreme Makeover

The day after Christmas we recruited several family members to transform our extra bedroom into a suitable nursery for LG. Their help was tremendous. We completed the entire nursery in under 4 hours. That would have taken me and Kyle the whole week to accomplish. Thanks Randy, Mom, Papa, Tache, Wendy, & Adam! It is such a huge blessing to have everything in place and ready to go for LG.

Here's some pictures of the action:

Mom, Wendy, and Tache organizing all the clothes for the appropriate drawers.
Randy painting
Kyle painting
Papa and Kyle putting the crib together. It took all four men, but they figured it out pretty quickly.

Sorry, you will have to wait for the big reveal (we still have a few more things to hang on the wall).

The Nursery

You're all probably sick of me just talking about the nursery. So, I'm sure you're dying to actually see it...well here's is what the nursery currently looks like

That's right no furniture, no paint, no cute artwork...just piles of stuff on the floor. Hopefully the next pictures will be the actual nursery reveal :)

Nursery Inspiration

Lately, everyone has been asking about our "theme" for the nursery. Well, I don't have a theme per se, but here's a little sneak peek into what the nursery might look like. I have so many ideas floating around in my head for the nursery...but I haven't actually had a chance to put the ideas into action.

furniture

Cocoon 7000 series

bedding

JJ Cole Bullseye

initials

Pottery Barn initials (this initial is in no way indicative of the babies name)

giraffe

Giraffe wall hanging...this is from Byrdie Graphics store on etsy, ours is somewhat different, but you get the idea

Fabric

And a little of this Amy Butler fabric thrown in.

This might look a little disjointed, but I'll show you the end product once it's complete...hopefully that is before LG makes his arrival.

The "Theme"

Okay, if you know me well, you know I hate themes (i.e. weddings, nurseries, etc.). I am much more interested in the feel of the room or event. I'm also typically all about clean lines and simplicity. However, the nursery furniture we chose has thrown me through a loop. The nursery furniture is very traditional. We chose traditional so we could continue to use for the furniture for many years to come. Anyway, now my thoughts on baby bedding and nursery have shifted drastically. I had to remove myself from the ultra contemporary to a more muted and simple approach. Since we don't yet know the sex of Baby Schenk (i.e. Spencer, Jewel, whatever you want to call them :) I have developed 2 strategies.

If Baby Schenk is a little (stressing the little part) boy the nursery colors will be light blue and orange with some neutrals mixed in. The baby bedding is JJ Cole -- Blue Bullseye.

If Baby Schenk is a little girl (this is my guess) the nursery will have a vintage feel with light blue and red decor. I have searched high and low for baby bedding that matches my vision and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. However, I have found fabric that would be perfect, so I might have the bedding custom made. The fabric is the Darla Collection from Tanya Whelan for Grand Revival. I love the vintage look, however I do not want it to feel like the Fourth of July. Here's the vision.Images courtesy of http://grandrevivaldesign.typepad.com
In a few weeks we'll find out which direction we're going.

The Big Reveal (in stages)

After hearing the babies heart beat for the first time we decided to purchase the baby furniture. Many might think "wow, that's kind of early to be purchasing big items for the baby." But we have our reasons including the start of football season for Kyle, the beginning of a new school semester for me, full-time jobs, no weekends from now until, oh let's be conservative and say, 18 years. Needless to say we are feeling the pressure to get things ready for the baby before our lives once again become consumed with busyness. I am so thankful God has given us this one month period where we can actually focus on the baby. So, in that one month we will register, read all the baby books we can, pick out and order baby furniture, choose the nursery and bedding colors, clean out a closet for the baby, and anything else baby related we can cram into those few precious days.

Our first order of business was to choose nursery furniture. Luckily, Kyle and I have very similar decorating taste, so this was not a difficult job. In fact we decided in under an hour. And now for the sneak peak you have all been waiting for, the Cocoon 7000 series.
