We had a busy weekend so here's a recap:
Friday Sawyer had preschool and Kyle left for an away game in Michigan. The kids enjoyed a night playing with their friends and a babysitter. I went out with a few coaches wives for dinner and coffee. Then we spent the night at my friend Emily's house. The kids loved having a sleepover! We decided to sleep over because I had to get up bright and early for a marathon relay and Emily graciously watched the kids during the race.
Saturday I woke at 5:30 am put on my running gear and headed to Akron. I participated in the Akron Marathon Relay with 4 other ladies from church. I ran the 2nd leg and it was 4.8 miles. This way my 2nd time doing this leg of the race and everything went very smoothly. In fact as I was running along I wanted to find out my pace (being a leg in the relay you don't really know when your teammate started or when you started making it difficult to know your pace) so I approached 3 girls who were running together and seemed to be pacing themselves. Turns out they were 3 friends running the marathon together and they went to Malone. Not only that but the girl I was talking to was also a cheerleader and her boyfriend plays football on the defense. Out of all the 1,000's of people and that's who I approached, crazy! Anyway it was a blessing because I spent the last 2 miles talking with the girls which always makes the race go faster. I finished in 45 minutes which was way faster than my goal of 10 minute miles so I was happy.
From the relay I had to rush home and pick-up the kiddos. Then we rushed home to listen to Daddy's football game. The kids napped while I nervously listened. It was a good game. Malone led at times, but in the end they lost to Wayne State.
Because I had expended all my energy at the race I was pretty worthless the rest of the day and the kids stayed in their pj's all day. That night we were feeling restless so we went out in our pj's for a little drive-thru ice cream. Then daddy got home just in time to put the kids to bed!
Sunday we went to church then came home and slept. At church I subbed in Sawyer's Sunday school class. Lets just say I won't be serving in his class ever again...he was quite disruptive and would not listen to me. Normally he does really well in classroom situations, but obviously with mommy there he likes to take advantage of the situation.
We also took this little picture we posted on FB
More on this to come...
Sunday night we had a community group get together and it was the perfect way to finish off the weekend.

Picture Day
Last week Sawyer had his 1st school picture day. I snapped a few pics of my dapper little man before we left for school. He was upset he had to wear 2 shirts, but then he told the photographer that he was looking very handsome :)
Can't wait to get the pictures back. I'm excited to see his expression it could be adorable, silly or just plain strange...either way I'm sure it will be memorable.
The serious side
Then the silly side

Punkin' Bread
One night when the kids had a babysitter they got to experience the wonder of pumpkin bread. Sawyer, who has a stomach the size of a bird's stomach, ate 5 pieces.
The next morning Sawyer woke up and crawled into bed with me and his 1st words of the day were "I want some pumpkin bread!" I had to break it to him that his mother was not a baker and had never made pumpkin bread. But I did have a solution, Grandma was visiting in less than a week and 1) she LOVES to cook 2) she LOVES to cook even more for the one's she loves and 3) she has a tried and true recipe for pumpkin bread. That seemed to satisfy his desire and he immediately called Grandma and asked her to make pumpkin bread.
And alas during Grandma's visit she fulfilled Sawyer's wishes and they made pumpkin bread together.
It was a hit with Sawyer and Nora!

MU FB & A Visit
I haven't posted about football in a while but it has been chugging along. Last weekend MU took on Saginaw Valley and it was in Michigan. We didn't make the trip so not much to report except MU lost.
This weekend was our 1st home game of the season. The Pioneers took on Hillsdale on a very wet day. As the game progressed the weather dried up and by the end it was sunny and warm. Hillsdale took the lead early and never looked back. The final score was 16-41.
The bright spot of the weekend was a visit from Grandma! She arrived Friday afternoon. We took it easy that night because of all the fun we had planned for the next day. On Saturday morning we got up to go pick apples at the orchard. Unfortunately, it was raining hard and it would not let up. So instead of picking apples we decided to go to the farmer's market and buy some fresh apples. Also, on a whim we checked out the flea market and came away with a new Woody doll and Bullseye. So while Sawyer was upset that we didn't get to pick apples I think we satisfied him with the new toys he carried around for days.
After the farmer's market we ran home for a quick lunch and nap before the game. This was a press box kind of game with the yucky weather. The kids played while the mom's attempted to watch the game.
Following the game we met up with Uncle Cliff and Aunt Jess for a delicious dinner.

1st Day of School Ever!
I recently got an email stating the school had been approved by the state so they were starting preschool the next day. As excited as I was to get Sawyer started it was very quick notice. And if you know Sawyer he doesn't do super well with surprises. So, as morning dawned on Friday Sawyer was not super excited about going to school or seeing his friends. He didn't even jump at the chance for a special breakfast. I was very worried about drop-off...
look at that ornery face |
Nora, our little ham, had to get in on the picture taking too |
outside his school, getting more excited |
finding his name and hanging up his backpack |
When I picked him up he ran out happily and was excited to tell me about his day. They played outside, painted, sang songs, read books, etc.
Funny story...
Me: Who did you play with at school?
Sawyer: Jake (this is a friend he knows well)
Me: Did you play with any other friends?
Sawyer: Yes
Me: What were their names?
Sawyer: My new friends don't have names.
We might have to work on that :)
And to top things off we went for a treat...he couldn't decide between M&M's or cupcakes, so we combined the two and he had an M&M cupcake :)
Of course Nora chose the messiest cupcake possible, chocolate molten. But you can't blame the girl it was GOOD |

Preschool Orientation
Sawyer was very excited the day of his preschool orientation. He even agreed to take some pictures :)
he's getting so big |
Attempting to make a "P" out of his body to represent preschool
this little girl had to get in on the action too |
Sawyer had a great time at his orientation meeting his teachers and his new friends. He walked in very excited and left very excited!
Because his preschool moved locations over the summer they had to get re-licensed. Due to the evaluators not visiting the school yet the 1st day of preschool had to be delayed a few weeks. During that time we had a play date with the teachers. Nora even got to stay and play in the room. Next up is the actual 1st day of preschool.

Cookies for my cuties
The other night we baked cookies at Sawyer's request. Of course the kids were in their favorite attire. Lately, no matter what time of day the kids will strip down to their underwear. They think it's hilarious. I think it's pretty cute.
Checking out the cookie progress.
Please ignore the dirty stainless steel, obviously the kids do a lot of oven looking with all those finger/saliva prints :)
Give that boy a cookie :) |

She is ready to go in her uniform pant, dress :) and helmet
Running the ball, can you tell she is pigeon toed?
While she may be the cutest football player around I don't think it will fly with Daddy.

Family Fun Day
Every year our church hosts an outreach event for the community. They provide lunch, inflatables, games, a petting zoo and the worlds largest slip'n'slide.
The weather was perfect and the kids had a blast. They were even brave enough to try the slip'n'slide. In fact Nora was all about it. She loved going down over and over even when she got destroyed at the bottom when the older kids knocked her off her feet. Sawyer was more tentative to try, but once we got him started he loved sliding down.
